About this place
Temporary closure: The Florida Forest Service reports all Point Washington State Forest campgrounds and recreation areas closed due to Hurricane Isaias, effective October 12, 2026. Check the official forest closure notice or call 850-267-8325 for reopening updates before visiting. Point Washington State Forest covers 15,407 acres in southern Walton County, including pine sandhills, wet flatwoods, prairies and cypress swamps. When open, it offers hiking, off-road cycling, wildlife viewing and reserved primitive camping. The Eastern Lake Trail System has 3.5-, 6- and 11-mile loops accessed from the parking lot on County Road 395. The map marks this trailhead; the forest office’s mailing address is 5865 East U.S. Highway 98. Entry conditions and hunting seasons vary, so consult the Florida Forest Service before planning a visit.
